Maybe you're feeling ordinary. As someone who doesn't have the extra powers or destiny to change the world. But what if there's more to you than you think? What if you have a hidden power within you that will manifest itself in the moments when it matters most?
If you found yourself in the Lord of the Rings story, who would you be? Frodo? Sam? Or would you like to be a mysterious hero who suddenly appears in the moment when everything is going on?
Such a hero in the stories of the Lord of the Rings is called Glorfindel. You won't see him in the movies. But in the book it was he who appeared in the greatest darkness, shining like a light and standing up to the dark powers of the Nazgûls. But it wasn't just Glorfinedl's Elvish great power. It was about who he was deep down. About its essence. About his story, which transcended the lives of others and was already at the beginning of the world.
And what if there is something like that in you too?
You are not just what is seen
The Bible says: “Beloved, we are now God's children, and it has not yet been revealed what we will be. “ (1H 3,2)
This is one of those verses that we have to read more than once to understand it completely. Because he says, “You are already a child of God” — but also, “There is something more in you that is yet to be revealed.” That is very powerful. It means you have an identity that is deeper than you may currently realize.
Similar to Glorfindel. When the Nazgûls looked at him, they didn't just see an elf. They saw a warrior who survived the ages, knew heaven, stood against darkness and won. They didn't just see what was on the surface. They saw what was inside.
Jesus as the Ultimate Glorfindel
It may sound bold, but Jesus has a lot in common with Glorfindel on this one. At first glance, an ordinary guy from Galilee. He taught, healed, fed the hungry. But demons? They were afraid of him at first sight. They knew who he was. While people were trying to catch Jesus, the demons were not trying to do anything like that and were clearing space in front of him. They knew that underneath that human box was someone who came from a completely different level of reality.
And it is this Jesus who says you can be connected to him: “I am the wine tribe, you are the branches. “ (J 15.5)
This is deeper than friendship. It's a connection. It means that everything that is in Him — His power, His light, His glory — can flow through you as well.
When he comes again, you'll see
In the Bible there is an image of Jesus returning a second time. On a white horse, eyes like fire, a sharp sword from his mouth, an army behind him. Not just the backpack buddy from The Chosen, but the King of Kings. And here's what's supposed to ground us:
“When he appears, we will be like him, because we will see him as he is. “ (1H 3,2)
These are not just poetic words. That's the reality. You are called to be like Him. Already now. And once more.
What does that mean for you?
It means that even if you feel weak, lost or ordinary, there's something more to you. Something that will manifest itself when the time is right. Something you can discover right now. And something that has an impact. Eternal impact.
You can ask God one simple question today:
“What have you put into me that I can't see yet? “
Then enter a moment of silence and listen. Write down what comes to mind at that moment. Maybe it won't be lightning from the sky. Perhaps it will be just a small feeling or thought. But that's where it starts.
You may yet to see how much your determination will change the world. But when that day comes -- you'll see.
